We often use lasers in our practice because of the advantages lasers offer over more invasive general surgery. Some of these advantages include a decreased risk of infection as well as the convenience and cost advantage of being able to perform procedures in an outpatient setting. Our surgeons also like lasers because of the high degree of precision they offer.
Lasers are routinely used in the treatment of eye conditions such as diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, glaucoma, and repairing retinal tears. We also routinely use a YAG laser for clearing the cloudy capsule that sometimes forms following successful cataract surgery. The success of LASER surgery in treating disease depends on the type of eye condition being treated. In some cases, the laser only helps prevent further loss of sight, while in other situations normal vision may be restored.
We also use lasers for refractive surgery procedures such as Bladeless All-Laser LASIK and Bladeless Laser Cataract Surgery. With LASIK, the LenSx laser is used to make the flap and the Visx Laser is used to resculpt the cornea, giving patients an alternative to wearing glasses and/or contact lenses. Bladeless Laser Cataract Surgery with Alcon’s LenSx has brought a new level of precision for outstanding outcomes.
We also have a laser for cosmetic use. The Lumenis UltraPulse Laser does a wonderful job for skin rejuvenation and resurfacing.
As you see, lasers have become a integral part of our patient care. Because of this, we remain committed to all these new technologies that offer our patients the best that medicine has to offer.
