Dr. Mark Gillespie graduated summa cum laude from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn. and went on to receive his medical degree from Vanderbilt Medical School. He completed a medical internship at Evanston Hospital near Chicago and his ophthalmology residency training was at the University of Virginia. He was subsequently recognized and certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology.
With more than 35 years of experience, Dr. Gillespie specializes in cataract, glaucoma and LASIK surgeries. He is currently a member of several specialty societies including the: American Academy of Ophthalmology; American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons; and Refractive Surgery Alliance.
Dr. Gillespie believes that each patient should receive 100% of his attention in trying to achieve their vision goals and is inspired each time he sees a patient experience life-changing improvement the first day after cataract or LASIK surgery.
Dr. Gillespie and his wife, Carol, met while playing on the same mixed doubles tennis team. Originally from outside Chicago, they vacationed in Fort Myers for more than eight years before deciding to move full time.
Dr. Gillespie likes to take advantage of the warm Florida weather participating in outdoor activities like golf, tennis and fishing. He and his wife also enjoy traveling to visit their four grown children and two grandchildren.
