Dr. Foster received his medical degree from the Emory University School of Medicine where he then completed his medical internship. Dr. Foster went on to an Ophthalmology Residency at Wake Forest University Eye Center and received his fellowship training in cornea and external disease at the prestigious Eye Consultants of Atlanta. During the fellowship, he performed several hundred corneal transplants, in addition to cataract surgery and LASIK.
Dr. Foster is experienced in bladeless laser cataract surgery, clear lens replacement, and modern corneal transplantation including DSAEK for Fuch’s Endothelial Dystrophy, DALK for keratoconus, and LASIK. He also has an interest in dry eye treatment and recently published a chapter on Dry Eye in Ocular Surface Disease, a well-respected textbook.
Dr. Foster has a heart for the blind in the developing world and regularly travels to Central America and the Caribbean to cure blindness through cataract surgery and corneal transplantation.
Education is very important to Dr. Foster. He regularly lectures to the community at The Eye Associates' Ellenton location and continues to speak at numerous community organizations and care facilities in Sarasota, Bradenton, Ellenton, and Sun City. He has successfully fulfilled the requirements for Maintenance of Certification (MOC) to be certified as a Diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology. MOC is a process that embodies the principles of lifelong learning and improvement. The goal of MOC is to continually set the standards of excellence in the quality of ophthalmic care by focusing on six general competencies integral to quality care: patient care, medical knowledge, practice-based learning and improvement, interpersonal and communication skills, professionalism, and systems-based practice. The American Board of Ophthalmology also recognizes a seventh competency in surgical skills.
Dr. Foster is married to Erika and they have four beautiful children. His hobbies include triathlon training and kayaking. Dr. Foster serves on the board of Oasis Church in Lakewood Ranch.
