Imagine what it would be like to wake up and read your alarm clock, take a swim in the gulf, or just look in the mirror and see how beautiful your eyes are without glasses. People that have been told that they were not candidates for LASIK have several options such as Visian ICL and Clear Lens Replacement.

What is PRK?

Photorefractive Keratectomy (PRK) was the first vision correction procedure available even before LASIK. PRK is best suited for patients with thin corneas and doesn’t require a corneal flap to be created prior to the laser correcting your vision.

During PRK, the surgeon removes the outer layer of the eye called the epithelium and uses a laser to reshape your cornea to improve your vision.

PRK recovery takes longer than LASIK because the epithelium needs to grow back over 3-5 days following the procedure. It may take a month or more to achieve your optimal vision.

What are Implantable Collamer Lenses (ICL)?

ICL or phakic intraocular lenses are the only nonpermanent vision correction procedure. The lens is placed inside the eye in front of the natural lens, behind the iris, thereby allowing you to retain the ability to focus for near activities. ICL can be a great option for patients that are dependent on their glasses and who otherwise thought they were not able to have vision correction surgery because of a high level of nearsightedness

The EVO ICL is an implantable collamer lens. It is a soft lens, like a contact lens, that is surgically placed into the eye. The lens works similarly to LASIK and PRK in permanently correcting your vision. Unlike these procedures, however, it doesn’t require cutting or reshaping of the corneal tissue and it is removable. Joe Jonas chose the EVO ICL procedure to help him get rid of the hassles of his contacts and glasses. Click here to read his full story!

What is Clear Lens Replacement?

Clear Lens Replacement (CLR) is rapidly gaining popularity for people that not only need distance correction but also near. Unlike LASIK, which changes the shape of the cornea, RLE corrects your vision by removing the natural crystalline lens in the eye and replacing it with a new artificial lens implant, called a premium lens implant, known as IOLs. This is much like what happens in Bladeless Laser Cataract Surgery however, in cataract surgery the cataracts are broken up and removed and then the lens is replaced with an IOL.

State-of-the-art ultrasound instruments are used to measure your eye for the correct lens power, taking your lifestyle and desired activities into consideration. These custom measurements are entered into sophisticated formulas to calculate your personalized treatment.
